Match 1 – Victoria v Surrey - 08 July 2015
Today was the first match for the Victorian Over 70s team, with a small distance to travel to the Sunbury CC where the Aussie Over 60s won the 3rd test and the series, and we played on the dame pitch, which was a road.
Team selected had Bob Hopkins as 12 man, designated bowler, non batsman, and Max Stephens as 13 man fielder, with Rob Wilson not playing and Terry Dunn not arriving until next week.
Sharpie won the toss and batted, with Eane Whitton scoring 50 off 105 balls, Neville Crane 45 off 61 balls and Gary Ashby 50 off 62 balls. This was Neville and Gary's first ever international match.
Cuddon and Sharp came in to push the run rate and fell cheaply, with Mick Perrett finishing off with 15 off 16 balls. Surrey's Bill Early trundled down 9 overs for 16 with 9 off his last over, and Hugh Symes 9 overs for 1 / 26.
We made 3 / 181 off our 45 overs.
Surrey provided a splendid lunch, and we were back in it with Bob Hopkins bowling superbly, 9 overs 0/17. Col Hutchesson in his first international was a bit expensive with 7 overs 1/43. Gordon Abraham 8 over for 23, and at the end, Sharpie 3 overs 1 / 8 and took two catches.
Dropping three chances didn't help our cause. Their top order hit 31, 44, 47, 37 and won the game, batting on until the 41st over at 3 198.
