FROM THE PRESIDENT TO ALL REGISTERED VOSCA MEMBERS.
Dear fellow Voscarians
Welcome to season 2015/16. I trust this finds you well and now with some practice sessions under your belt, looking forward to donning the whites for yet another season. It’s amazing to think some of our members have now been playing competitive cricket for more than 60 seasons.
You are most likely aware I have replaced Rob Wilson as VOSCA President and I wish to acknowledge Rob’s contribution to VOSCA, especially as President for the past six years. Rob was rightfully recognised for his services at the August Delegates meeting when awarded Life Membership.
At the August AGM, in addition to my election, Kel Grant was elected Vice President whilst the remaining 2014/15 members of the Executive remained unchanged, namely Joel McGlynn (Secretary), Greg Watsford (Treasurer) and Ian Leach (Registrar).
Following the August meetings, another Delegates meeting was held on 5 October and below, I have summarised items of interest and decisions you may be interested in.
The Rules sub-committee has considered proposed amendments to the Playing Rules and attached are the Rules for this season. I encourage all players to familiarise themselves with them.
The Mid-week Sub-committee has also determined the draw and Playing Rules for the 6 sides in this competition for the initial 4 rounds. Players will be advised the Rules by their captains as the Mid-week competition trials variations to the Rules for Sunday games. Any players from non-competing Mid-week clubs who would like a game on a Wednesday should contact John Moore (Iona) in the first instance.
Note all games will be using the traditional red cricket ball this season after an overwhelming vote in favour of the red ball over the orange ball.
The popular printed fixture has again been produced this season. In addition, fixtures for Sunday and Mid-week games have been uploaded to our web site by Ian Leach. Ian is in the process of making a number of improvements to the VOSCA web site making it more user friendly. The site will also be upgraded during the season. You will see our new logo on display on the site….‘Victoria Seniors Cricket’. We also have a VOSCA Facebook page which is worth a visit.
Welcome to Benalla Bushrangers, our 16th club. Benalla will play home games at the picturesque Rose Gardens Oval and the team will draw players from Victoria’s north-east region.
All clubs have been requested to ensure a defibrillator (AED) is available at their home games this season.
National Championships - Hobart 15-20 November.
Of the 36 teams competing in the Hobart Championships, 11 are from Victoria. There are five Over 60 and three Over 70 Victorian sides whilst ACS, Geelong and Vic Country (playing as Western Victoria) are also competing. Accordingly, Victoria is well represented and best wishes to all our teams. Can Vic Country retain the Division One title won in Melbourne?
In addition to the Hobart Championships, the annual Echuca Carnival will be held from 20-24 March. Vic Country host this popular event and are anticipating an increase to 12 competing teams.
Four tours have been arranged for next year, namely New Zealand in March; Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, USA, Canada in April; Samoa in June; and Bali in September. Details of these tours and proposed tours for 2017 and 2018 are in the attachment.
Congratulations to Graham Cuddon (Glen Waverley), Peter Dell (Gippsland), Ian Hammet (ACS), Bob Hopkins (ACS) and Ron Kasputis (Casey) on their selection for Australia Over 70s in the forthcoming test matches against England.
A match to mark the 10th year anniversary of the first Victoria v. NSW game will be held in Albury on 9 December. Rob Wilson and Peter Jacobsen (Benalla Bushrangers) have been the Vic organisers. Our side is; Graham Cuddon (capt.), Graham Bloom, John Costello, Warren Dummett, Ian Hammet, Phil Higgins, Ron Luckman, Geoff Ofield, Dick Stumbles, Rex Thompson, Eane Whitton, Rob Wilson.
Again, very best wishes for an enjoyable season. VOSCA is a wonderful cricketing fraternity and your Executive committee will be working diligently to ensure the organisation remains strong and effective and meets the needs of its members.
